Rescued Elderly in Assam

On August 3, 2024, Sangita Dutta Adhikari from Lankeshwar, Guwahati, Assam, reached out to our Elderline-14567 service to report a 70-year-old woman who had been noticed in the Lankeshwar area near Omega Eye Clinic for the past two days. The elderly woman expressed her need for support in finding an Old Age Home (OAH) and requested assistance from us. Our NHSC team has acknowledged her request and is actively working to provide the necessary support.

Measures Taken by NHSC Team

The case was assigned to the NHSC Team (FRL) on August 3, 2024. Our initial step involved coordinating with the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Jalukbari. Following the established protocol, the NHSC team coordinated closely with the Officer-in-Charge of the Jalukbari Police Outpost. With their assistance, the elderly woman was safely rescued, all necessary formalities were completed, and she was relocated to the One Stop Centre for temporary shelter.

Further, the FRL team visited the Sakhi One Stop Centre on August 6, 2024, to conduct a counselling session with the elderly woman. During the session, she expressed her desire not to return home.

The NHSC team started to search for Old Age Home for her (Rescued Elderly) & also coordinated with the the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) of Kamrup Metro to find a suitable shelter home for the elderly person. Hence, our team along with PM Akoijam Premananda Singh visited the Sakhi Old Age Home Centre on 07/08/2024 to hand over the case to DSWO.

With the approval of DSWO, the elderly woman was relocated to Pramod Talukdar Memorial Old Age Home in Beltola, Guwahati (781038). The FRL team also notified Azara Police Station verbally about the situation and assured the survivor that we would visit the Old Age Home periodically.

After completing all necessary procedures and measures by the NHSC, the elderly woman was safely transferred to Pramod Talukdar Memorial Old Age Home in Beltola, Guwahati, Assam, ensuring her comfort and well-being in a secure environment.
